Bedsores, or pressure ulcers, occur when the skin and tissue are damaged due to prolonged pressure. They often form on the skin over bony areas like the hips, tailbone, heels, or elbows. This skin breakdown happens due to the block of blood flow to the area. This can happen due to persistent friction, and skin rubbing against bedding or chairs. The moisture from sweat or urine of faecal incontinence increases the risk.
